Why Play? How to Make Play an Essential Part of Early Education

Fall Read:

Why Play? How to Make Play an Essential Part of Early Education
Author: Rae Pica

Meet the Author Session October, 14

Synopsis:

This book critiques the trend of prioritizing formal academics over meaningful, play-based learning. It highlights that play is not a break from education, but the very mechanism by which children develop holistically. Through a clear analysis of diverse play modalities, the author equips educators and families with practical tools to design dynamic, engaging environments that empower children to thrive.

Objectives:

  • Review and understand the value of each form of play – dramatic, cooperative, construction, loose parts, rough-and-tumble, and superhero – to empower children’s growth and offer inspiring, thoughtful, and intentional guidance during play.
  • Discover innovative teaching practices and celebrate your unique ideas to create joyful, play-based learning opportunities for children.
  • Bridge the gap between theory and practice, and empower families with the tools to see play as the powerful learning engine it is.
